On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. John 7:37-39
Thirst is portrayed as a powerful appetite associated with the physical and spiritual needs of man. The most obvious need is for water because every human being dehydrates from the lack of water. When one is thirsty not much else matters, being starved of water compels you to seek water to satisfy your thirst.
As human beings we have an appetite for the things of the world so we may become like or better than our neighbors. However our physical cravings that is thirst can lead to sin, for everything in the world — the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does — comes not from the Father but from the world. 1 John 2:16
On the other hand man has a natural thirst of the spirit to fill the heart with living water from God. The bible says, As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God, Psalms 42:1. If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink John 7:37. The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life. Revelation 22:17 Again –
"Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to me; hear me, that your soul may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David. Isaiah 55:1-3
This water God is talking about is plentiful and without cost to anyone who seeks it. Life is precious to man because he is unable to sustain his mortality and must face that his or her health decays to the point of ceasing to exist. Without God and the water he supplies eternal life man has no hope for life to continue once the body is spent.
Skin for skin!" Satan replied. "A man will give all he has for his own life. Job 2:4
A man will give all he has to live but with the right choices you can improve the longevity of your life. The bible tells us a person’s life is more dependent on every word spoken by God than on the food we eat, Deuteronomy 8:3. With the knowledge we can obtain from the author of life we can learn what to do to achieve the eternal life God wants to give freely to those who ask.
I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live Deuteronomy 30:19.
The invitation is open to all of mankind let everyone who is thirsty for life come to partake in the free gift of the water of life.
The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life. Revelation 22:17
Throughout the bible the gift of the water of life is always connected with a possession God has and is willing to give to his creation. Jesus expressed this idea to the woman at the well.
Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." John 4:13-14
Let’s review what Jesus said about coming to him, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life. Jesus is the source of living water that mankind needs to obtain for eternal life.
Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. John 7:38-39
Man became a living being when God formed him from the dust of the earth and inspired man with the breath of life. God combined flesh and spirit to create mankind but to be born of God our spirit had to be regenerated. Being born again is a start in a new life where we recognize the deity of God with access to the water of life that refreshes our spirit.
Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. John 3:5
Recognizing Jesus as Lord changes our relationship with God but our relationship is seen in many ways. In the following passage we see our Lord as our personal shepherd
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, Psalms 23:1-2
The shepherd lead us to the water of life for in the age to come there is a river flowing from the throne of God that we may drink of.
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. Revelation 22:1-2
Currently the majority of men and women are at odds with God and not aware of the water of life. The bible tells us that if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink, Romans 12:20. Even though you may not agree with God and may not be his child, he is still inviting you to partake of the water of life saying – If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.
Do you have a thirst for life, Jesus said If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.
With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation." Psalms 91:16
As the deer pants for streams of water,so my soul pants for you, O God. Psalms 42:1
The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life. Revelation 22:17
On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. John 7:37
